Samco .308 Mauser - Tight chamber?

Hi all, visited my friend over in AZ during the week.

He recently acquired one of those Samco spanish .308 conversions.

We went to load some German 7.62 NATO. The round would simply not chamber, I did not want to force anything but what I missing here ? I loaded 5 rounds, would not chamber (got stuck), loaded one same issue. I removed the follower, and loaded the round in the chamber and the bolt actually closed (took some umph).

    Thoughts?

It's known that some of these 7.62 Nato conversions have issues like that.

I've yet to see a 7x57 one have those same issues.

"I removed the follower, and loaded the round in the chamber and the bolt actually closed (took some umph)."

Mausers are designed to feed from the magazine. "Controlled round feed" means the extractor needs to be in the extractor groove the whole time.

Forcing a bolt closed over a chambered round can break the extractor.

Sorry to hear that I had one of those Samco .308 Win/7.62 1916 Spanish Mausers in the 1980s and it was a total piece of XXXX it might be your extractor thats what guides the round into the chamber on Mausers sometimes their bent or out of spec try just dropping a round into the chamber

I dropped a round in the chamber and it closes (snuggly) could he bend the extractor or something ?

I would just replace the extractor if you can find one otherwise try to see which part of the extractor face is out of spec and just try to bend file or grind it into position

Spanish M43 Mausers chambered in 8mm run great (I have one) and are among the cheapest milsurps out there. I wouldn't even bother with one of these "conversions."

And as marvelously simple as the Mauser bolt is, the extractor is the only serious PITA to remove and replace.
