OT: USGI Shotgun Shell Crate

Wandering around the local flea market I found this and decided it wanted to come home. Shold work great to hold all the random ammo pouches, tool rolls, and bayonets that one collects along with milsurps.
And so you don't have to ask, got it for $20.

Any guesses as to age?

No lid, sadly.

This^^^ W.C.C. = Western Cartridge Company contracted for a Billion rounds, and they weren't the only contract. I think your crate either had boxes of 25 packed in it, or they were packed in spam cans, that were packed in the crate.
