    Mineral Spirits Disposal?

I'm thinking of finally using my '03 and getting a few C&R's. I was fairly fortunate in that the M44 Mosin I got from Big 5 was cleaned up already, and almost free of Cosmoline.

I'm suspecting this won't be the case for anything I get from SOG, and I'm thinking of grabbing a Mauser 24/47 and maybe another Mosin.

Once you use Mineral Spirits, how do you dispose of it? I'm assuming it's not too cool to throw it in the trash, so is there a place that will take it for free?

Most cities are set up with a hazardous chemical drop off sites for paints, oils etc.. They charge you a small fee depending on the amount. Check with your local gov or trash pick up company.

Pull the seal off and screw the lid back on.
Then you can squeeze the mustard and it will come out of the bottle..

You can re-use it after you are done. Jut let all of the junk settle at the bottom and then filter the OMS into a container.

I use a mixture of 1/2 Denatured Alcohol and 1/2 Mineral Spirits. It works great for cleaning all of the Cosmoline off.

Any advice on what kind of containers to keep it in? I just don't want it to melt whatever I put it in, like say Tupperware or something.

Doesn't it just evaporate if you leave it out?

I use regular unleaded, outside, and then start the burn pile with it. It is cheap and works better than anything else I have tried. It doesn't melt antifreeze jugs. If I didn't have a use for it, the garbage guys would take it at their regular hazardous waste drop off. Obviously, if you live in an apartment or have neighbors close at hand, this probably won't work.

I would keep it in a metal container. I believe it has hydrocarbons in it and if left in a plastic container it can make the container panel (suck in) and crack.
