    Persian Mausers VZ98/29

I've been hunting for one of these for years and kicking myself for not buying one back in 2010 when this hobby / addiction kicked off and Samco was still around.

I found one that after shipping/transfer will cost me $700. No bayonet, no test target, decent shape...however it is parkerized not blued.

Did some reading and it seems Samco parked some of these due to corrosion issues ? Is there a way to undo this or would it be cost prohibitive?

What do you guys think? Part of me says buy it and get another when it comes up, the other part is saying be patient and get a cherry blued one.

Hoping some of the existing samco stock gets its way out to the public.

Any updates on who bought it ?

Interesting. I wonder how long it will be before they start listing the samco stuff.

Priced high IMO. $550 will get you one of the "used" ones on GB all the time. The park finish is the deal breaker for me. I lucked out with my unissued one for $605 on Gun Broker mid 2015.

Keep searching, those Czech made Persian Mausers are magnificent rifles.

I hadn't heard that Samco had parkerized any Persian Mausers.

Years ago they sold "no blue" Persian Mausers. I picked up three of them when they were $199/each.

They weren't literally "no blue", but the bluing and stock finish had been damaged. They looked like unissued models that had been damaged in some misguided attempt to clean off the cosmoline...possibly with chlorinated cleaner of some type.

This was typical of what they looked like...

                They cleaned up nicely...

Very nice rifles, coolest crest ever. My son was lucky enough to find one at a gun show in Alaska when he was stationed there a few years ago.

Sold my unissued one three years ago and regretted it, picked one up two weeks ago at the Nampa, Idaho gun show for $500, said he had to sell it to reduce his collection, about 90% with a few dings on wood and pristine internals.

They're beautiful Mausers, would love to get one myself. But for the $700, I'd just hold out and keep looking for a blued example. A recently parkerized rifle at that price is way too high IMHO.

The Cadillac of Mausers. And they shoot even better than they look.

Well with all you jerks (jk) posting photos of your cherry blued ones I will most certainly have to agree with you on that.

                              Thank you all.
