Maybe the CMP Backlog is Easing?

Many of us have been waiting for backlogged Service Grades and Field Grades from the CMP while the 5000+ Carbine orders jammed the system. I noticed today that a TON of Garands hit credit cards on the CMP Forum (nothing has been moving lately). When I checked the e-store, my February 2 order for 2 SGs hit my credit card (order#5910xx).

I know many of you have had orders in since mid-Feb with no DBU or contact, but perhaps they are finally getting the armorers working on re-furbishing Garands instead of Carbines. It has been reported that the backlog is over 500 Service Grades. Hoping that the wait time drops now, and looking forward to getting serial numbers on my 2 Garands soon.

Their inventory and order queue will forever be a mystery to us. One week they could ship out SG like the OP, and within days a baclog for weeks. When buying from the cmp it's best to just mail the order, and live your normal life(like that's gonna happen. And the day you least expect it, the fedex truck will stop...

But seriously, signup fedex.com, that way at least you get some advancev notice. It is free and easy, and you get a discount when creating labels as well.

Well, My Feb 2 order of 2 SGs was order number 595XXX. So........There are still over ~4000 orders stuffed into that Feb 2 date. hahaha So maybe the backlog is still there. I wonder if the order number just gets stuffed on there and then put into a queue so it doesn't matter what the order number is regarding its actual position in the queue? Congrats on your coming rifles, though.

Point taken that as a newer CMP member of only a few years I have waited at most 2-3 months for rifles while the veteran DCM and CMP guys waited a year. But I would also wager that the quality of the rifles (USGI stocks, more correct parts) was far higher and the prices FAR lower that what we have now! No more 6 digit serial numbers!!

In any case, I think we may have hit the "final countdown" with Mark Johnson quoted as saying there is maybe a year's supply of Garands left.

As for order numbers, mine may have beat the carbine rush (arrived on 1/31 and hit e-store on 2/3), and mievil's order got in back of it. The 5000 orders in the middle are 90% carbines I think.

If anyone else is delaying getting in on the Garands, I really think we are now at a 3-4 month wait and the real possibility that the supply will end by early 2017. More and more are coming out with CMP replacement stocks and I figured I did not really want one of the last ones they scrape together from parts bins and new wood. Act now!

Final countdown indeed. I think they'll find a few here and there, but quality is definitely not the same as even 5 years ago. 6 digit SA can still be found, heck, i got 3 just from last year alone with usgi stock, so it's still a bit of luck involved.

I think parts gun is definitely in the future, the ones that come into the hands of cmp are mostly not completely SG grade rifles, most need a bit of work, and therefore it needs a new stock, a bit here, a bit there. I would still get it if i can. In a few years, guys wouldn't even care if it came from Korea with shot out barrel, and new cmp stock.

Oh yeah forgot about those, I still have a couple sets of GI wood waiting!
Got a good one from Orest when they did the Reno Show (twice).
I talked to their gunsmith about a less wood a couple years ago and it would have been cheaper to buy a complete Rack grade cuz the less wood was also less some parts!

Recalled seeing this thread. Just figured I'd post if anyone else was wondering where they may be. My order received on 3/1 just had a CC hit. Should be delivered this week based on history. So, almost 60 day turnaround in the middle of the carbine fiasco.

I got a pending in the estore today. No DBU and no cc hit yet.

Don't even remember when I sent the order in.

I know it it was after I'd given up hope on a carbine

I sent my order packet on 4/15 and did not receive a confirmation email so I emailed their customer service. Due to the volume of orders, they are currently entering orders from the last week of February as of Monday.
