Mosin question

Did the russians rebarrel mosin rifles ?. I know they cut the length of M 91s to make other models out of them and they counter bored barrels but i have not herd of rebarreling like we did with our military rifles during arsonal refurbishment.

Not generally. I'm sure if they had spare barrels laying around and had a Mosin with a totally ruined barrel they'd install it, but mostly they did the counterboring thing.

When you talk about Russian rifle maintenance, you have to remember the sheer size of the stock they had and the cost to maintain it.

I don't know if they did at refurb, but they certainly did rebarrel older receivers at the factory.

It seems logical that they would rebarrel if it was necessary but I have nothing to base it on. Some of the barrels seem like new when they were packed in cosmoline and its difficult to believe that corrosive ammo and a humid climate would be that friendly to the bores.

I have seen a few examples of older receivers with newer barrels. They were each date stamped separately.

True enough - the Russian's idea of maintenance is dunk it cosmoline, store it and forget about it.

I mean, they did if absolutely necessary, like MosinNagant9130 mentioned above.

Their idea of "absolutely necessary" wasn't really the same as ours, though.
