    Legal Question

I have a legal question for you bright minded people. Lets say I wanted to buy a vet bring back rifle from a WWII war veteran. Lets also say I have a C&R license but the gentleman does not. How would I go about legal obtaining possession of the rifle? Can I just buy it since it is a vet bring back and just register it under my name? Or will I need to have the gentleman ship it to a gun store to do the whole transfer thing? Should I be aware of anything under these circumstances to make sure the gentleman does not get into any trouble?

    Thanks in advance

If you hand him the money and he hands you the gun you are good to go. In CA it is legal to buy long guns over 50 yrs old with out a FFL if it is ptp.

If he legally posses it and it's not an AW he can just sell it to you cash and carry. Also, there is no "registration" for long guns in CA that are not AWs (or machine guns or something).
I do not provide legal services or practice law (yet).

Should be legal unless it's a MP40, a FG42, a StG44 or something with evil features or hicap mags..

If you have a c&r, you shouldn't have to ask the question.......rtfmi.

Well I should have to ask it to be sure. I wasn't sure if it was going to cause a problem for the non-licensed individual. I have only done business with companies like AIM, J&G, Pat Burns (technically not a company but well known), Big 5, ect... So I am not familiar with laws concerning person to person transactions since I never needed to be familiar with them. But now I might need to be so it is why I asked the question...

Thanks to everyone else for the help. Now I just need to see what I can score.

The only problem you might run into when buying from an individual is getting their name and address for your bound book. Some folks don't want to give out that info and if they don't then you can't buy C&R firearms directly from them.
