Most likely a Czech issued rifle. If it was a foreign contract it would usually have the national crest of that country on the receiver ring.

It should be 7.92x57. If you have any doubt you can slug the bore to confirm it http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinSlug.htm

Some nice pictures in this thread http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=798997
        Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

It's probably a unknown contract rifle.... Should be 8mm....

"Usually" rifles taken into Czech service also had military acceptance proofs stamped above the serial number. The markings consisted of a capitol letter followed by a a lion proof then the year of acceptance such as "37"..or (26) in the pic....So this rifle was in all likelyhood not used by the Czech's...

Look around the front sight on the barrel for import markings....They may be very lightly stamped.

Check out these old threads on Gunboards for more info on "E" series Vz-24 serial numbered rifles.

I have a vz-24 stock set with E1760 on the left side of the buttstock. Noticed the comment in Ball's book that it's unknown who bought the E Series rifles. The stock disc on this one is marked with an eagle WaA6; can't tell if there were additional digits at one time. Guess that means whoever...

I bought a Vz. 24 in New Hampshire a recently and I got it home yesterday. It was imported by Rguns and is marked as 8mm. I haven't had a 8mm caliber rifle before, so I haven't cleaned it yet since I ordered some new brushes and bore mops. I was wondering if anyone could say where this gun is...

          See pic below.

That's the importer markings, added by Century Arms inc of Saint Albans, Vermont.

According to Ball's "Mauser Military Rifles of the World", VZ24 Rifles were made in 1938 for:

                Czechoslovakia
                Romania
USSR for the Spanish Civil War.
                Bolivia
                China
                Japan
                Iran
