Hey guys I just have a quick question about these guns. I tried to join the other Model 8 forum given in another thread about the model 8 but it wouldnt let me access it or something. I recently recieved a Model 8 from a friend of mine that lives in the city to test it out and clean it up. It fired great and was relativly accurate (took out a computer monitor at 70 yards) but it wont feed a cartridge from the magazine. Upon further inspection it seems as if the magazine is too low, it isnt flush with the trigger guard and that also explains why it wont feed cartridges from the magazine the bolt just scrapes the shell. About as technical as i have gotten with trying to fix the problem is a forcefull whack. I attmepted to figure it out from the schematics shown in that other thread but was just left confused. Before i start takin this thing apart i was wandering if anybody had a suggestion as to a quick fix? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Remington Model 8 feeding problems from new guy

Does your rifle have the correct magazine?
If it does have the correct magazine, is the magazine, spring, or follower damaged?
If the magazine is correct and in good working order, does it mesh properly with the rifle?
Does the rifle mechanism function properly?
What was the intended ammunition/loading recommended by the manufacturer?
Any or all of these could be your problem.
You'll have to take some time to figure out how this design is supposed to work, and make sure that the parts are meeting design intent, i.e., study the mechanism, know exactly what each piece is supposed to do, and where, exactly, the magazine is supposed to sit in the rifle.
Study the rifle and magazine until you're able to determine if it's working per design, during that discovery process, you're likely to see what the problem is.
Find an identical model in a gun shop that you can inspect alongside your rifle.
Decide why the cartridge isn't feeding from the magazine- does the bolt not go back far enough to strip the round out of the mag?
So the fault may lie with the mag, the rifle mechanism, the ammunition, or all of the above.
You need to really study the whole system, and its intended ammunition, to discover what's wrong.Last edited by Francis Marion; 01-03-2009, 6:54 PM. -
its a fixed mag and the ammo is correct .35 Remington. The problem seems to be that the mag for some reason is not high enough and i dont know how to move it up without stripping the gun completely apart. Im definitly far from an expert on these guns and was just wandering if there is a quick way to take these mags out/ get the thing moved up. Im actually sure this is the problem because there doesnt seem to be any damage to any of the parts the mag just isnt flush with the trigger guard like all the other Remington Model 8s and 81s ive seen.
thanks for the help,

It's easy to strip the rifle down to barrel and receiver; maybe that would allow you to see what's wrong with the magazine position.
