    59 Yugo's -- California C&R yet?

Hi all -- Happy New Year!

So, this being 2009 officially, at some point do all the '59 Yugo SKS's we see floating around become official California C&R, transferable by mail for 03 holders and not needing the FFT anymore? Or does it take a formal ruling/announcement by the CA DOJ?

    Unfortunately, no.

The "50 year" rule applies to when a particular firearm was manufactured. It does not apply to when the model was introduced.

So if you can prove that a particular M59 was produced on a certain date, then that particular M59 would become eligible for a California C&R FFL to mail order 50 years after that date.

But nobody has access to the production dates of Yugo M59's by serial number since NATO forces blew up the factory where the records were kept. So we will have to wait until the year 2016 before Yugo M59's can be transfered without an 01 FFL in California.

Yugoslavia SKS M59/66A1 manufactured by the Zastava Ordnance /Red Banner Works from 1967 to 1970.

The M59 is practically a carbon copy of the Russian SKS and, , was made at Red Banner from 1960-67. The 59/66 series was manufactured at Red Banner from 1967-70.

My buddy and I recently went shooting and he shot corrosive yugo ammo through his Mosin and figured he could just piss in the barrel and call it a day. Several days later the bolt was rusted shut but I guess the fouling wasnt TOO bad.

Hey, wait a second. The M59s ARE a C&R. I know because I picked one up from Century a few years back, and most places that sell them online specifically list them as C&Rs. It is the 59/66 that is ineligible to be shipped here. Not because it isn't a C&R, but because it has a grenade launcher on it that makes it politically incorrect.

Yes, they are C&R, but unfortunately that isn't enough in California where there is also the 50 year rule. So still no ftf until NEXT Jan.

No such thing as a "CA C&R", the status of a firearm as a C&R is purely a Federal function.

The California requirement to transfer longarms through a dealer excluding those over 50 years of age is purely a CA requirement and is exclusive of the federal definition of C&R.
