    CMP Slings

    Folks,

I'm completing my first CMP order. Has anyone bought one of the leather slings they sell? I'm trying to decide if it's worth getting one. In particular, do they lend themselves to shooting army-style with a loop around the bicep? And how do they attach--it would be much more convenient for shooting if they can quickly disconnect from the rifle so you can "wear" the sling (say, during cease-fire at a shooting range) rather than putting it on and off. From the picture, I can't tell, but it didn't look well adapted to wearing that way. I'd rather spend the ~$50 on ammo if I'm going to wish I had a better sling for shooting anyway.

I'm new to shooting with the loop sling, so if that question isn't entirely coherent feel free to tell me what question I should have asked and answer that one. :-)

What do you need guns for if you are going to send your children, seven hours a day, 180 days a year to government schools? What do you need the guns for at that point?-- R. C. Sproul, Jr. (unconfirmed)

The "CMP" sold sling is just a Turner Saddlery sling with CMP stamped on it. You can just get the Turner sling anywhere, unless you really want 'CMP' stamped on it. I use Turner slings. They're probably the most widely used ones, since they are readily available at many High Power vendors and are good quality.

This is how it's used in High Power:

I've got a video of myself "snapping-in" to the sitting position:
