Typical 98k snow job auction where there is alot to read and nothing to see. It's become standard fare to have all parts photoed in high res down to the screw and there are plenty of 98k's north of 2k that are mostly worth it on GB, so this guy is just really behind the times and trying to sell a rifle worth 1200 for 2500.

It's always the half-honest sellers that bring the worst problems.

Reading through that thread on the K98 forums was enlightening, to say the least.

He got quiet after the folks on K98 forums called him out. Another example of fakery.

Makes me wish I'd have bought a k98 years ago before they got ridiculous. Now I'd probably get screwed because I don't know them well enough to know legit from BS. I'll just wait until someone randomly offers to sell me one cheap. That's how I got half my collection, lol.

K98 collecting is definitely not for the faint of heart. There are no more valuable WWII firearms out there than correct, unmolested German guns. For the majority of us, a nice RC or mixmaster will fit the bill as a placeholder.

I have 6 K98's. All are nice, but none are completely matching or super valuable. I actually just acquired a "project" K98 which is basically a lightly bubba'd bringback.

                  Complete Bolt / Receiver / Barrel /Floorplate matching #
Sporterized stock that is also matching
                  No handguard
                  No barrel bands
                  No sight hood
                  No capture screws

I paid $420 and it will be a fun project to restore, although it will never be 100%...

Really glad I managed to pickup my nicely stamped mix master RC K98 from here for $250 about 8 years ago!

The discussion on this thread makes me stay away from trying to buy nice K98Ks. http://ww2weaponsforum.com/showthrea...o-Bueno-bnz-44

Those guys have forgotten more about these rifles then I ever learned.

Stuff tends to spike ugly in the last 30m - 1h of those auctions. I thought I had a mint G.29/40 in the bag for $800 with zero activity. In a matter of a few minutes it doubled in price and went for about $2K when the smoke cleared.

Not to mention the MANY items that I bid on and forgot about, that got sniped for +$5 at the end.
