Just got my service grade H&R from CMP a few weeks ago and finished the stock with tung oil. (came with a new bare stock from CMP). So I can't wait to shoot it!

Did you get a birch stock or a walnut stock? Mine had the pumpkin colored birch one considered putting some tung oil on, but picked up a CMP walnut stock that I will use instead. PLS post some photos how it came out with the oil?

Today was tons of fun. The Garand volley was fantastic, all the clips pinging at the end was such a blissful symphony to listen to.

Great time, how about those ultra rare German G 41 [ 2 ] and G 43 I think 5 in all . 4 of them with correct scopes. WOW.
My M39 performed flawlessly about 12 inches high at 100 yards.

I got a walnut CMP stock. I had to do some very minor fitting on the trigger group because it was excessively tight. I had a fairly difficult time disassembling it when I picked it up...and could NOT, for the life of me, latch the trigger guard back on. I even had Ke6guj and Baboosh try it: their response... "well, have fun tonight!" haha.

I did 6 coats of pure tung oil. Didn't mix it with mineral spirits or anything. Took me about a week.
(FYI, I haven't buffed it with 0000 steel wool yet. So it still has that slight gloss)



If you need any oil, let me know. I still have 95% of a bottle.

Great day! The M1 Garand volley was fun, I got to shoot an M39 and an M91/30 PEM (thanks guys), helped a brand new shoot fire his first rifle, and see a bunch of great friends. See you all next time.
