    Makarov question

I'm contemplating putting up a gen2 Glock 19 for trade toward an East German or Russian Mak. I'm wondering if the commercial Russian Makarov (IJ70 I believe?) qualifies as C&R since the ATF C&R list simply states "Makarov pistol, East German and Russian, 9mm Makarov."

Also, what are these going for these days, and are spare parts and mags relatively easy to find?

I owned a Makarov (Russian IJ 70). While it was reliable and had some cool factor, I wouldn't trade a Glock for it. The Russian versions had a rough fit and blue job. Simple blow back design. If you want the cool factor, go for it. The Makarov just isn't in the same league as the Glock. Just my humble opinion though. When I purchased mine back in the 90's, it was a C&R if I remember correctly.

I don't believe that any of the commercial Makarovs qualify as C&R.

You are most likely right as this was over 20+ years ago.

          That is correct.
The Baikal IJ-70 is not a Makarov, it is an IJ-70. It looks like a Mak, functions like a Mak, but it's called an IJ-70... It's a bummer.

This I did not know. I wrongfully assumed it was since it is Russian.

Although they are not C&R, the IJ-70 is a nice fun gun to shoot. I have one that I bought back in the 90s that still looks new. I don't think I would trade a Glock for one though uness they were willing to sweeten the deal.

This website used to sell things now it's more just a place for some information about maks.

Surplus Russian Maks (fixed rear site) are C&R. Very collectible, expensive and difficult to find. In the $900-1000 range depending on condition. East German Maks are C&R, much more common, very well made, shoot great, and in the $400-450 range.
