I posted this auction on the K98 forum a couple of days ago - http://www.k98kforum.com/showthread....back-MP40-MP44

They are very nice - too expensive for me.

I am pretty sure they will reach their BIN price, or be just short.

I was lucky enough to put a few magazines through an MP-40 recently. Smoothest, most easy to control subgun I have ever shot. If I ever move to a free state and want to buy my first subgun, it will be an MP-40, they are such fun to shoot.

If someone wants to help me, I'll let you shoot it

You'll need to pay your share of 99% of the bid. I think that's only fair

        Thanks!

          Pit - I figured you'd seen it already -

          As a bring back collector - I think it's a beautiful package -

I appreciate that they are being sold as a set -

A collector friend recently got a Vietnam bring back RPD below -

The same aution house had one of three known AK-47 taken out of the US embassy during Tet 1968 -

Wow, I wish I could afford that set. I agree that it's really cool that the two guns are being sold as a package.

Saigon, do you know how much your friend paid? I have no idea what something like that is worth.

                Saigon,

That is pretty special - when that came in country, Chinese and Soviet forearms were something quite special - the younger collectors here missed the cold war, where an AK was a rare and special bird - seems almost comical saying it now.
*Anyone remember the $1 million bounty to any Soviet pilot who defected with a Russian Hind helicopter, during the Afghan campaign?

That RPD (I don't know what an RPB is) or Chinese type 56 would have been available pretty much only as a bring-back. Very cool.
As a papered Curio and Relic, that's a seriously primo item, even more so than the historical provenance dictates.

If he has one with a China-Lake industries shortened barrel for use during "shining brass" operations, even better The RPD is an awesome MG, the only one I rate higher, is the PKM, Mikhail Kalashnikov and the 7.62x54 are just too good together!

This is me playing "dress up" off Catalina a year or so back - PKM:

Such a great set! If only firearms could talk! Really wish I lived in a free state I would love to own those just as a investment.

The RPD was a bit north of 6 figures - Plus the usual fees -

There were a lot of mistakes in the names of arms back then - Stuff we have never seen before -

Quite a few of my bring back docs states the Chinese SKS were Russian and so on -

But you are right Pit - Back then the only ones of any of these comblock arms were bring back from either Korea or mostly Vietnam -

Some of my SKS collectors friends were paying a lot for examples of SKSs back then - 1500.00 for Romanians -

My dad worked with General Vinh Loc last in Saigon at headquarters - He passed away back in 09 in Houston -

You look great there friend - Time has gotten away from me of late thus the lack of participation on the forum -

Happy year of the Monkey -

A bit of topic here - Tet of 1968 was also Year of the Monkey -

Thank you, Likewise - I married a monkey so hopefully they are good for me!

No buying for me until the present project is in order, then I will sit back and look at the fruits of several years labor and decide what to buy next, lol.

I have a feeling the timing will work out beautifully, I will be ready to buy again, just as...

So I guess if you were a Colonel the "No automatic weapons" rule didn't apply. My dad was one of Patton's infantry sergeants and took a brand-new MP-40 after he helped liberate Dachau (said they were making them there). Later, some captain who hadn't seen combat made him take it apart and throw it in a river.

                          Regards,

Pit - She sure doesn't look like a monkey!

                            I looked at RS's site - FG42s are neat!

Crunch - I have and see quite a bit of bring back from officers that are both documented and not -

WWII was a different beast - I am sure there were so many channels to bring things home - Heck they brought home all kinds of wonderful German women to help them on the farm -

Now the VN war was a bit different - But that above was a presentation piece - I've seen presentation autos that were torched then later reweld -

Quite a few of the AKs brought back are in such conditions -

Prices on full autos have gone stratospheric in recent years. About 15 - 20 years ago, a lifetime in collecting, Vietnam K50M's could be found for $1200. And I was offered a North Korean AK Vietnam capture for $3500. i had the $3500 but being here in CA I couldn't get it. Later on an auction house told me that there was a secure storage facility back East where if I wanted a FA I could keep it there but as a collector not investor that just didn't float my boat.
