Old bolt gun in jail, need help choosing appropriate scope

Just jailed a Savage 340 in 222 remingtin. Not sure if it over 50 but its at least over 30 as they stopped making them in 1985. I do know thwy made rhese in the 50s though. Easier to gussy up this one than sporter an old military gun. It had a stock split, so it will still be a project.

Looking to put a weaver side mount on it along with an older Leupold. What would have been the cat's meow in 1965? Thanks

I would look for an older Weaver or Redfield in 4x. There was a Weaver K4 that had a 1" tube. They will look primitive by todays standards. I have a Weaver K4 with a 3/4" tube on a .22 and looks dim but works.
There used to be a guy in El Paso that would refurb the old Weavers but I think he's gone.
    Ebay could work.

If it has pressed checkering figure after 1965 or so.

I put a Herters 4 to 12 on a Remington 721 in 300 H & H. I've looked for older Leupolds and they seem pretty hard to find. I'd figure Redfield or maybe a Bushnell Scope Chief, 3 to 9 or 2 to 8, with removable "Command Post"?

Hit ebay for an old weaver scope. You can pick up something in the 2x-4x range for around $50 most of the time. I think Weaver still offers a mount for these.

I put an old Weaver K6 El Paso glass scope on my K31 and it works great. The mount called for a smaller barreled fixed power scope and it works great.

What part of the world are you in? I've got an old Redfield 3X9X40 and an old Bushnell Banner II 3X9X32 (Japanese), both one inch & used. The Redfield is longer. Your choice 30 bucks or trade for boolits, knives, 1911 mags, or?? PM me if interested. PAX
