Someone on Gunboards long ago had a pic of a FN49 or a MAS49 someone turned in to a bullpup. I once also saw an Arisaka at a show in the midwest that was heavily bubba modded. The one feature that stood out was the stock was painted like a high gloss enamel type finish in black and yellow tiger stripe patterns. I've also seen another with a similar kelly green stock.Comment

Wait, isn't this the special one-of-a-kind M1917 made for General Pershing's personal use? He used it to shoot the Kaiser while flying in a Sopwith Camel over Berlin, thus ending the war.
Soon to be offered on GB at the low low price of $10,000....
"What a lovely but absolutely ridiculous sentiment!"Comment

Wait a minute! I might have seen that Arisaka! Did it have radiator hose clamps for barrel bands?Someone on Gunboards long ago had a pic of a FN49 or a MAS49 someone turned in to a bullpup. not that big a deal
My first rifle and favorite was a rem 1917 gifted from my grandfather in the 80s. He got it through his vfw years before for what i was told about 29 bucks. Same amount we paid for the bayonet shortly after he gave it to me. I understand how everyone feels by looking at one all chopped up. I did a little research today about Eddystones cause i was always told to stay away from them the receivers are prone to cracking. according to the surplus rifle forum Eddystone made 1,181,908 Rem 545,541 winchester 465,980. The thread went on to say that in those days the guys at the forge were paid by how many receivers they produced. In order to take home more cash they heated them with a higher temp so they could skip one step in the hammering process . It also said that management had to sometimes go in and turn it down to the proper temp. Imagine multiple shifts that produce the same product , but in one day you would have a product in the morning of a different quality than the ones made on the night shift. The thread is very interesting and anyone who loves these as much as myself should check it out for yourself. One last thing , the receivers are said to crack upon removing a used up barrel to put on a fresh one. This in itself can damage even a good receiver if not done properly.Comment
