    C&R bonus pics added

Bought a finn M -39 and the bonus is the receiver tang date is 1898 so it is considered antique . Mental back flip. Barrel date is 1941. I dissembled it for a detailed cleaning so pics will be posted later. I think the receiver is a TULA but i just got it and have not done my homework on the markings. No rust or pitting but most of the metal finish is long gone on the receiver. I rubbed the stock with flaxseed oil and it is stunning except for a couple of small blemishes. It has the proper leather sling.sorry the picture quality is so poor, i use a 15 year old digital camera and for some reason i am always limited to 5 pics only.
I found the imperial eagle and Cyrillic PK stamped on the top of the receive, sure glad it was not ground off like many of them. Not sure if it is double headed eagle. It is very small.

    Congratulations John!

Is this your first M39? It sounds like a good one from the description.

This is my second one, the first one was not as nice. The wood on it was pretty beat up . Had to replace a bent firing pin and broken ejector. This is a VKT . The first was a sako.I think i will be happy with this one. I got it from another calguner who said he shot it at oak tree and it shot tight patterns.

After all the wood treatments I've tried I like best the flaxseed oil finish. Gives the safe that flaxseed oil smell. I use it on my Garands and love the look. Got better and better over time.

Get the camera out John and let use see

Congratulations. It is such a great feeling to look on the underside of the tang and POW; it show a 96 or in your case, a 98. Chances are it is a Tula (a 'maul' stamp), Izhevsk (bow holding an arrow) or Sestroryetsk (a lone arrow).

It is a TULA with a post war stock

Yes peppermintman i agree on the flaxseed oil. I had a Dupage M1 garand that came with a new walnut stock. It was nice but just too out of the box looking. After 3 months and about 20 had rubbed coats of flaxseed oil she was real nice and dark.

I have a '42 Sako M39 built on a '96 Tula. Sweet shooter and accurate as Hell.
                      Nice score, John.

Man that date stamp sure is nice and clear, the one i have is for sure a Tula 1898 but not that clear. Sad many tangs were scrubbed and no longer visible.

John, your camera has a really small disc in it, probably measured in megabytes. Your basic smart phones now are 8-16 gigabytes and will have way better resolution. Time to step up.

You are right but my wife helps me post pics [ she hates doing it ] and the only way she had luck transferring pics is my old camera with the card installed into our computer after taking pictures. recently she tried using my I phone pictures but could not figure out how to download them to our computer for posting.
