    Aftermarket Nipples for colts.

I have been into black powder revolvers for almost a year now. I currently have three pietta made guns. An 1858 remington,1851 colt, and a 1860 colt. I've found that the Colts open tops like to get jammed a lot with cap fragments. Unlike my remington design the spring isn't adjustable. Interweb legend has it that sometimes aftermarket nipples can resolve this problem on colts. My 1858 never has problems and the nipples on all the guns are the same. I am using remington #10 caps.

    So my questions.

    1. What are the best aftermarket nipples.
    2. Will this help with reliability.
    3. Any other ideas are appreciated.

What brand of caps are you using? I have no problems with Remington caps in either of my original Colts, an 1860 Army and '49 pocket model.

Nice to see some old guns still in operation. My caps are remington #10 guns made by Pietta.

Wanted to know more info on nipples because I posted a similar thread about rusted nipples and upgrading towards Slix Shots.

As of all the research I've done, I think I'm sold on Slix Shot nipples. However my current problem is finding an appropriate nipple wrench to remove rusted nipples. Besides the standard nipple wrench, some users have preferred the ratchet style or going even further with a custom socket (I believe 3/16" socket cut and shaped with a dremel).

Can you let me in on some of your findings? Do you think the slix will help with my particular issue?

I'm still new with blackpowder revolvers. I think upgrading might be worth a try.
