Got a NEW 91/30

I bought an Izhevsk 1944, 91/30 from SOG. I added the $10 for special select. I received a NEW rifle. The bore is so new that the machine marks from the chambering reamer are visable at the throat. There is no wear at the muzzle and the rest of the bore is perfect. There are no refinish stampings on the rifle. I have not had the time to shoot it.

I have several loads ready to try it out. I reload for most of my shooting with military rifles. I have had some bad experiences with surplus ammo and I prefer my own ammo. The Countries surplusing ammo that is still used in their armed services are not selling off their best lots. I fired some 1989 mfg Russian ammo last week and it all hang fired.

I already have a Finn SAKO M39. It is capable of 1.5"- 10 shot groups with Sierra .311-150 gr reloads. I have always enjoyed shooting the Moisin rifles. I bought a model 91 when I was 17 years old for $9.95 (49 years ago).

$69.95 plus shipping. I am CRFFL holder. It was a 3 for deal. 2 good rifles one not so good. I sent the other one back and requested that they send me another rifle. No problem.

There are no refinish stampings on the rifle.

The likelihood that you got an "original/unissued new" rifle vs. a "refurbished to like new" from SOG is pretty much nil.

Not all refurbs got the vertical line in a box mark on the metal. Some were stamped with diamonds and a few other assorted shapes to indicate refurbishment. And the occasional one slipped thru unmarked.

Sounds like you got a good price and a nice rifle. I love Mosin Nagants.

I think you are right about it not being unissued. I have NEVER seen a bore like this one on a 1940's Russian Rifle. It is the best I have ever seen. I used to run Great Southern Arms in Tylertown, MS. We had nearly 500 rifles and handled nothing but military rifles. A Lot of Moisins came through the shop and this has the best bore of all those rifles. What else is unusual is, the metal has a smooth blued polished finish. I have another Izhevsk 91/30 that the metal finish is very rough. The lathe marks on the barrel of the other 91/30 look like screw threads. There is another refinish mark that cab be stamped on the stock. A square with a diagonal line. It does not have either. I guess I just lucked out on the bore. I will post shooting results and photos of the targets , when I shoot it next week.

I ordered another 91/30 from SOG, I hope it comes through half as nice as this one.
