I might get crucified for saying this but I am somewhat glad they put it at the $1k threshold. If they were in the $6-800 range you'd have some jack off buying 10 of them to resell for 2-3x the price on here and or at gun shows with the usual buzzwords; REAL, MILSPEC, SURPLUS, USGI WW2, KOREA, VIETNAM, PIECE OF HISTORY IT CAN BE YOURS FOR $3,000.Comment

The thing is that usually the CMP usually prices things pretty reasonably for the worst gun in the grade, and then if you get a mid or high grade gun you get a deal. And it just surprises me that a barely-rack grade (i.e. just above junk since that's the lowest grade) would be that much. And even if that really is the current market price if all goes well they'll be dumping 10K/year of these things on the market for years. I don't know many USGI 1911s are currently in private hand but it seems like there must be some downward price pressure.
But, hey, I'm no expert.Comment

Did you see that the CMP made a public statement on pricing? It's all fair game at that point.Comment

I agree with everything you said. I'm happy to wait and see what the prices are. I hope they're better than they say in the article. Right now I'm just happy that the legislation passed that enables to process to start. Talk about ridiculous bureaucracy -- they law requires the Secretary of the Army to approve the sale, but there is no current secretary of Army. The thing is that usually the CMP usually prices things pretty reasonably for the worst gun in the grade, and then if you get a mid or high grade gun you get a deal. Yes, they ended up all around the world including in the hands of UNITA in Angola during the wars there along with M79 launchers. I had a chart once upon a time that was current as of the late 80s that showed MAP transfers of U.S. small arms by type and model around the globe post WW2. Some pretty strange places received small arms from us including Yugoslavia.Last edited by smle-man; 01-20-2016, 7:14 PM.Comment

I have a feeling the CMP prices will push up the prices in the private market. As with M1 rifles, CMP acts like a benchmark for private sales. So if the poorest condition lowest grade 1911 is now worth a minimum of $1000, that means that decent ones equivalent to service grade that you can currently find for $1000-$1500 in the private market are greatly under priced. They should be starting at $2000 and up.
If I had a grand to blow on a C&R pistol it would be a Luger not a 1911.Last edited by Tere_Hanges; 01-20-2016, 7:13 PM.CRPA and NRA member.

Well...
Seein' as how they are Our Pistols to start w/...?
Around Half bluebook.
Based on the M1 Garand structure, was expecting $350/$450/$650.
They've got all of my money they're ever goin' ta get.
First the Talladaga Country-club... and now this.
Fantastically Ridiculous.
