Question about M1 Carbine front sight

I have an Inland carbine that has a front sight which is marked "N" below the front post. The top of the N is pointing towards the same direction as the post. There are also no wings on the side to protect it. Did ALL carbines come with those wings?

Serial number is 67054xx and barrel date is 12/44.

As far as I know all USGI Carbine front sights have ears.

I have an id sheet somewhere on my computer that shows all manufacture and sub-contractor codes but I can't find it right now. Guessing N = National Postal Meter??

Not normal, looks like somebody cut the ears off. It also looks like the blade is shaved a bit? Does it shoot high?

If you decide to fix it and put on a correct one, make sure you also get a new sight key and pin just in case they are or get damaged when you punch the pin out. Fulton and Orion7 have all three for around $20.

N isn't National Postal Meter, it's the front sight manufacturer's code (Niedner Rifle Corp., of Dowagiac, Michigan)

I've got to ask, what is the sight key? Heard often, never knew what the heck people were talking about. Figure after 40 years of shooting these things I should learn.
