Tucked way in the back were a Colt New Service with a S/N that dates it at 1925, and a no-dash S&W model 48 from 1959. The Colt is .45 LC and the S&W is 22 mag.

Time to head to the range!

Only like 1x. I have over 300 guns so it was bound to happen. I had to sit down and think about where it came from. On most my guns I know approximately what year I bought them and what I paid and where I bought it.

I have totally forgotten about some ammo purchases as well. I have found little stashes here and there I forgot about.

I wish my safe magically produced guns without my knowledge, like yours. Nice little find. Never found a mystery gone, but I did manage to find a can full of .22 ammo that I purchased back when you could walk into any Walmart and just buy the ammo.

That must be an extremely early model 48 as I think the 22mag cartridge was introduced the same year. Grips appear to be of a later vintage. Nice gun I rarely come across them I'd like a 4 or 6 inch one.

If anyone finds a mystery gun in their safe, it was probably stashed there by a robber and thus evidence in a case. You can send them to me for proper evidence tagging and storage
