    FFL3 Log in question

I just picked up a 53 year old C&R pistol ,and went thru a PPT with the seller at an FFL1 dealers store. Does the gun still need to be logged in to my bound record book, or just when I.. if ever... dispose of it?? Or just to be on the safe side go ahead and log it in....??

Any C&R that you aquire or dispose of, while licensed, needs to be logged. You would log this as coming from the gun dealer, not the person you bought it from.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately the gun is no longer on the California approved list and the dealer can't be the source. It would have to be recorded as a PPT between the seller and myself. All the dealer does is handle the paper work... I think?? Correct me if I'm wrong here.

Ok, well I guarantee the dealer's book is going to show it going to you... not sure why yours shouldn't show the same thing

Log it in. The dealer dros'ed it. It's in the system now. I would put both parties in my log book, dealer, and seller.
It got a 10 day hold right? Or you have a COE, then it's cash and carry.

That's true... Don't have the COE yet. I still need to get the finger prints done. Have all the forms ready. So it's a 10 day.

If it is a C&R it is on the approved list by default. You can prove it is over 50 years old?

Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale

Effective January 1, 2001, no handgun may be manufactured within California, imported into California for sale, lent, given, kept for sale, or offered/exposed for sale unless that handgun model has passed firing, safety, and drop tests and is certified for sale in California by the Department of Justice. Private party transfers, curio/relic handguns, certain single-action revolvers, and pawn/consignment returns are exempt from this requirement.

As Brian said, you log it in as coming from the FFL.

Roster does not apply to PPT's or Curio and Relic handguns.

The thing to keep in mind is that you have to log C&R transactions even if you didn't "use" your C&R license.

The other thing to keep in mind is this is a Federal requirement and a ATF book. All this California stuff doesn't really matter to them. They don't care about rosters or PPTs or whatnot. Don't overthink it. Just log it as coming in from the dealer within one business day of receiving it and get on with your life.
