Colt police special, decent deal?

.38 special, 1953 4" barrel
The seller is asking 450 for it
Bluing and grips are in very good shape though there is some obvious holster wear on the barrel.
No accessories/box afaik

I don't know a great deal about things but prices on auction sites seem to be all over the place. Does it seem like a reasonable price?

I believe that is a fair price. Are there any ownership marks on the pistol like which dept it came from (assuming it was issued)?

I didnt see any, but didn't get a super great look at ot (was rushed) planning on checking onit more thoroughly tomorrow. Does it help/hurt?

I would say it helps because you have some provenance about where it's been.

Ah right. Should also help tattle if its been refinished too. Maybe Ill take it home with me tomorrow then if its mechanically sound/original finish.

Well, someday I'll have the experience to know what the good deals aree as i see um. Right now I just have a little discrete trip to gunbroker as I'm wandering around the store.

Most CR guns I encounter I've seen for the very first time... I just got to the hobby very recently

Yeah, deals pass us by. For one reason or another that's part of the game. But there's always another new old gun around the corner.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as a douche. It's just that I have seen similar situations where folks missed out on a killer deal due to hesitating too long. Better to lose out than grossly overpay though, so at least it didn't cost you any money.

Watch out though, because the hobby tends to be very addicting and before you know it, you are running out of room.

Funny though... I was whining at the wife last night about missing out on the colt, and she said shes sure she saw it there /weeks/ ago. Go figure huh?
