    CMP garand

I'm finally ready to take the plunge and get a garand. Is CMP still a good source? What kind would you recommend? And what is the easiest way to get one? I don't have my 03 FFL license. I hear it's a pita *** now with the new regulations to make the 03 FFL work for collectors. Would it be easier to get it shipped to my local FFL?

There is no better deal in the C&R world than the CMP. Don't wait, get it done today. Join the Garand Collector's Association for your club affiliation. Save and print the receipt for when you join the GCA so you can send it to the CMP along with your order form.

You want a Service Grade. If you are going to be buying 2+ more C&R rifles over the next few years, get the C&R FFL. If the Garand is a one time C&R deal, skip the C&R FFL.

The only thing that makes ordering from CMP a PITA is the paperwork and then the w...a..i..t.... for your rifle. It is however totally worth the effort.

Don't even think about it, just fill out the paperwork, join the GCA, and mail in your order to the CMP. You will only regret it if you don't do it.

Put your order in as soon as you can. A couple guys on the CMP forum have said they just received notice that their recently placed service grade orders are on back order. Stick with a service grade, you will likely be very satisfied. If you send your order in now, you can always FAX a copy of your GCA membership card when you receive it.

Just ordered my first service grade last month. Turn around time was 2 weeks. It was very easy, just get your paperwork in order.

You can also have the GCA share your membership info with CMP, no need to wait for a card. All done electronically.

Yes, they will share it electronically if you want them to, but in the past it was not immediate. Not arguing with you, but I know from experience.

I'm not positive but I think the CMP will call them for verification if necessary. It usually takes longer to process M1 orders than for the GCA membership transmission to the CMP.

M1 Collectors Club does everything the GCA membership does except no magazine. M1CC is actually faster and cheaper, only $14 per year. Its just a option for those on a budget
Service Grades are now backordered so I dont know how long the wait will now be. There is only a limited number of Garands so I would get your order in ASAP

I ordered one of the last Service Grade Special's last year (marked as out of stock the day after I got my order in) and received it 3 weeks later. It took abour 4 months to get my service grade.

Best deal out there and well worth the wait.
