    Selling to a C&R Holder?

It looks like I will be selling my Winchester '73 made in the late teens/early 20's. The buyer says he has a C&R and I have no reason to doubt that is true. As a seller what should I ask for, or get a copy of, before we complete the sale?

    Thank You for Your Help!

If the deal is happening in CA, the buyer needs to have both a 03FFL and a COE. Get a copy of both and make sure his Drivers License or CA ID match the info on the FFL and COE.
CA Penal Code 27966 exempts 03FFLs + COE holders from having to go through a 01 FFL to purchase C&R rifles.

If the buyer is out of state and you are shipping to them, just get a copy of their 03 FFL and ship only to that address. If you want to, you can call ATF at 1-877-560-2435 to confirm the status of the FFL.

Trickster, thank you for the info and quick reply. It is a CA to CA sale so I will get copies of both.

I agree with everything that Trickster said. In addition, I also ask for a photocopy of their driver's license and have them write "I am not a prohibited person" on their photocopied license. If the buyer is computer saavy, ask him to email you the FFL, COE and Driver's License in PDF format before you meet him to handle the money and the exchange.

Since that's basically all the COE says that seems kind of redundant.
