I am scoping another mosin nagant 91/30. What is the best scope mount? The old PU side mount from ww2 or another mount that bolts to the rear sight mount?

You need make a couple of decisions first. Can you drill and tap by yourself for a side mount or pay someone else to do it? Do want it to look like a PU clone? Do you want to use a long eye relief scope? Do you want to use a scope that has more than 4x magnification or variable magnification?
I looked at the accumount offerings linked above and there is more available than when I modified a couple Mosin several years ago.
The side mount with two piece rings is nice because you'll have a lot more scope options possible.
The rear sight mount kits are easier to do yourself but require LER scope only.Comment

Used them for a sporter I made. It's a bit pricey and requires drilling and tapping but it is rock solid.Comment

I took the rear sight off and put a mount on the dovetail under the rear sight its a long eye relief scope, works good but I was thinking on the PU scope on this exsniper I have I already have a bent bolt handle on it.The name is Tex Grebner but my friends call me "the I just shot myself guy".Comment

My answer would be to find a legit PU sniper, but they have certainly spiked in price in the last year or two. I am glad I bought mine from AIM before the prices went way up.

However, I think any of the above solutions would work well and be more reasonably priced. I am still entertaining the idea of a Finn M39 with a Russian PU scope / mount added. The Finn deserves better than what average eyesight can accomplish with such a good rifle.Comment

Definitely going the old school pu scope setup. I see quite a few for sale right from Russia. not cheap though, just studying up on authentic ww2 scopes trying to tell the fakes from the real ones. There is a lot to look for. If they have a box with a diagonal line through it they are refurbished and if it has a date on them that is the date they were rebuilt. I can now spot the Chinese junk from the Russian stuff. The name is Tex Grebner but my friends call me "the I just shot myself guy".Comment
