No, just don't renew, and that's it.

You should - may regret it later

I prefer to let mine lapse and then reapply in a few months... There's a nice benefit to doing it this way

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but...
Mine is up for renewal - in the form it says that if you don't renew, you have to explicitly state so, and submit all your records to ATF (i guess they mean the bound book).

What is the benefit of letting it lapse and re-apply???

Also - the renewal form asks for "Business hours" when ATF can contact you, and does not seem to provide exception for collector's FFL03. What do you folks put there?
"There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket."

PM me your requests for Russian AK optics - Obzor, Kashtan, Rakurs, POSP, etc.

That does not apply to 03FFLs. Read the fine print.

Found the section about C&R not being required to submit records, thank you!

Still curious about the hours of operation question though.

Just write "none" or "N/A". You are not a business.

Since 03FFL who do not renew are not required to turn in their records (bound book), then those records are no longer needed and can be safely disposed of.

I'll let you come to your own conclusion as to what the benefit could be.

There's no reason to be coy about it. Some people like having a gap between registrations so they can start a new bound book so if they get audited it's a) fewer items to go over (faster), b) if you're doing the audit at their location it's fewer guns to transport around to the ATF office, and c) If you check serials against all your guns and make sure everything's in order it's that much less stuff to check, and d) that much less chance you missed something.
