What am I missing with this M39?

I don't normally post GB auction links (ended), but am I missing something here? $1050 for a plain jane scrubbed receiver Sako in a pretty stock. Jeeeez.

I don't see anything special, other than the fancy wood.

I don't follow your describing it as a "scrubbed receiver", as that usually means the date/arsenal were ground off the tang. That one still shows 1913 Izhevsk.

Same things I am seeing. I should have been more descriptive, I was referring to the scrubbed Imperial proof on top of the receiver- the concave divot commonly seen on Sako rifles.

Came across that one too a number of days ago. Glad to see that my opinion lines up as well and I wasn't missing something.

A few hours of heavy sanding, 12 coats of polyurethane varnish followed up with a BLO rub would really set that piece off nicely. A little 000 steel wool and cold blue too!

In my opinion, the GB prices for M39s are more correlated with pretty stocks than anything else. Tiger striping is a huge draw. I recall others that only sold high due to the stock as well. Plain Jane stocks with perfect bluing and bore never hit $600+ Tiger stripes do.
