New Springfield for moi!

I attended the 44th Annual Sespe Rendezvous at the Ojai Valley Gun Club in Ventura County last week and came home with my first Springfield, a Pedersoli 1795 Springfield Musket.

The 1795 Springfield was the first musket to be produced in the United States by Eli Whitney. Based on the French Charleville musket, Model 1763/66, it was made by the Springfield and Harper's Ferry Arsenals from 1795 to 1814.

The musket was one of several carried by the Lewis & Clark Expedition and used during the War of 1812.

It is a .69 calibre smoothbore flintlock. Overall length is 60 inches with a barrel 44 inches long. It weighs in at a hefty 10 pounds.

Can't wait to get it to the range.

Very nice. I've been meaning to jump into the flint-and-steel muzzle loaders at some point and Pedersoli always seems to come up to the top as the best repro manufacturer of these types of guns. I'd like to get a reproduction Wurttemburgische rifle musket from them as well at some point but they cost around $1,600.

The musket was one of the raffle prizes at the rendezvous and I was lucky enough to win it. It is by far the largest calibre black powder shooter I now have.

You cannot image the expression on my face when I found out what these are selling for retail.

It is a keeper for me, especially since the Corps of Discovery is one of my favorite historical events to read about. Now to find a pistol from the same era to round out what a member of the Lewis & Clark Expedition might have carried.

Man, that is nice! I've been seeing more videos popping up on Youtube lately for Hawken rifles. They're such nice looking rifles, it's made the gears start turning on black powder

Congrats very cool rifle, I love the flintlocks. I want to get a BP muzzleloader, everyone advises to start with a percussion cap gun first so I'll start with a civil war era repro first then graduate to a flintlock.

Very nice musket! Lewis and Clark also used the Girandoni air rifle on their expedition.
