M11 gun racks

Hi,
Just grabbed these for super cheap, saved them from the scrap heap.
They are M11's, 1 dated 65, 1 is 67 and the last is missing it's data tag.
Can anyone enlighten me on the difference on why the 65(middle rack)has a different middle mount than the others? I'm guessing the square mounts are a later update for the M16? The larger is for the Garand/M14? It's also aluminum as opposed to the square mounts being steel. I'm also gonna post this over on the CMP boards as well...
