    Winchester Model 53 .32-20; info?

    Hey,

I'm having trouble decoding the serial number of this rifle, one that I inherited from my gramps... can anyone help? That number is 994944.

Sounds like some of these are worth some $$$... though I kind of hope this one isn't so I won't be tempted.

Well, given that this is sort of a specialty rifle, and most don't know what they are worth, I would think it's only worth what an individual is wiling to pay. Which could be $150-$1500. But then again, what do I know. Let's just pretend it isn't worth anything, so you aren't tempted to sell.
        cheers.

Hah, while I like your philosophy, I'd still like to know a little bit about it... at least what year it was made. I'll probably still hang onto it, that is unless I find out it's worth as much as the one I saw the other day in the gun library at Cabela's... price tag of $14,999.00?!? Dream on, huh?

Old Guns site has always worked for me, but my old Winchesters are limited to pre '64 M70's. I believe the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody Wyoming will, for a fee, do a search for Winchester serial numbers. How bad do you want the information ?
