    IDF K98 Mauser?

I recently purchased a Israeli K98 and have to admit that, I am totally ignorant regarding K98's. The stock is really ruff and want replace it with of one the reproduction stocks offered by Brownells. Just concerned on fitting some of the metal parts.

How hard is it to remove and install the cross bolts?

    Thanks

    Don't change anything on it.

That's a piece with a LOT of history to it. It deserves to be un-molested and respected for what it is.

This is NOT something like a Mosin, or even like an M48 where you can justify bubba-ing by just saying there's a billion of them out there.

That ****ed-up looking rifle is the way it's supposed to be. Even the ****ed-up looking stock is the way it's supposed to be. I've got one too.

Don't do it. If you really want a shooter K98, I'm sure I have an RC laying around somewhere that I'd gladly trade for an Israeli.

Springfield Sporters had new condition original IDF 98k stocks and handguards for sale at one time. You might want to contact them. Call because their website doesn't list everything that they have on hand.

I just heaved a sigh of relief over that. Thanks Max for your forbearance.

BTW, why tease us? Where are the pics?

There is nothing wrong with throwing on a nicer stock as long as you don't toss the old one. It's a completely reversable change.

Damn, Liberty tree had IDF K98 Stocks a couple months ago, they must have sold out.

So what is it? German rework, post war Czech or FN?

Some of the IDF Mausers spent time in Central America (I want to say Guatemala), and the time in the jungle really did them no favors.

nothing wrong with having two complete stock sets for a C&R. I did that with my 1944 TULA PU sniper. I shot it a lot .

Mine's one of the ones that went to Guatemala, and she's pretty rough. About 0% finish left, bore looks like a sewer pipe. Still shoots fist-sized groups at a hundred yards though, so that's a plus. I don't shoot her that often though - only maybe 50-60 rounds in the past 10 years.

She's a dou.45, although with a mix of wartime and post-war bits and bobs.

To the OP, I wouldn't be afraid of trying to clean up your stock, try and get the grease and crap out of it the give it an oil finish.
