Garand bore diameter

I read that M1s are supposed to be right around .308 groove diameter. I just slugged mine, and all three times it read .307. Is this normal? Being new to reloading, should I do anything to size down .308 jacketed bullets, or is shooting the .001" oversize ok?

Use 308 bullets and you will be fine. A little tight is good, avoiding any gas leak

Your looking for a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.As mentioned already .308 diameter bullets for 06 or 308 are what you need.Use them and all is well.

I think M1 carbines use .307 pills.

Sounds like you have a nice tight barrel. You have no worries, you are good to go with .308 FMJ bullets. My K31 is .307 and I shoot .308 FMJ bullets without any issues.

Just slugged my K31 and it also is at a .307. Another question: my 03A1 slugs at .3085, would it be advisable to use a .308 or a .309 bullet? Sorry if these questions are retarded, I'm very new to reloading.

Use .308 bullets for all three, and you should be fine. As far as I know, nobody makes a .309 bullet. Remington used to list their 30 Carbine bullet as a .307, but most places list .308 and that is all most people use. The next step in bullet size is .311, which would the Russian .30s. The 7.62x54(Moisin) and the 7.62x39(SKS/AK47).
Now, if you are speaking of cast bullets, that is a different story. With cast bullets you slug the bore, and then go at least .001" over bore size. But not with jacketed bullets.

91/30 slugs at .313, M39 slugs at .312. I may cast some .313-.314s

Drawing # 6535448 calls out for the M1 Garand barrel:

Grooves: .3075 + .0020"
Lands are 0.2995 + .0020"

It sounds like you have a like new barrel.
