    K98 buttplate change

Has anybody ever changed from a flat buttplate to the cupped version on their mausers? I have a thrashed old Mauser stock I'd like to change from flat to milled. It's got zero collector value so I'm not afraid to try. Anybody tried it out before? Is it possible?

It would be easier to buy a Mauser stock that has the cupped but plate on it all ready.

It would seem quite difficult to do. The cupped buttplate stock is relieved to accept the flush fit of the butt plate. The flat plate isn't. It would probably look like crap even if you got it on there.

K98 stocks aren't cheap, but they are easily obtainable which makes it sort of unwise to turn one into something it isn't. K98 snobs may have a fit over a late war receiver in a flat plate stock, but who cares. Most are parts gun anyways unless you are dropping $$$$ on a matching and correct piece.

I don't know that it would even be possible to do it, the cupped buttplate is pretty thin, and the stock fills the inside of the plate. I'm not sure there's enough wood on a flat plate stock to do it.

I don't have any personal experience, but if it looks like it will fit, why not try?
You could fill in any voids with epoxy.

a set of wood files and sandpapers will make it work.

              Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.
