Webley VI - may have made a mistake

So I saw this, and threw down a bid....wasn't fully awake at the time.

What am I bidding on? It may be .455 unshaven but looks refinished. It seems to be missing proof marks and the marks under the barrel are completely alien to me. Is that maybe a more modern replacement part?

Is this maybe a Khyber Pass model?
Everyone on Calguns keeps talking about TDS. I never knew we had so many fish keepers!

The TDS on my 10gallon tanks 110ppm
The TDS on my 29 gallon tank is 150ppm (due to substrate)

    Uncut: Marks still on cylinder
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

I guess what's throwing me off is that there is no Mark VI stamp, no patent stamp (maybe lost to refinishing).

The 1300 BAR stamp on the barrel is very unusual. I don't think a Mark VI can even handle 1300 BAR. I believe the crossed sword proof is either B C 4 or S C 4. That would date the barrel to either 1952 or 1991.

Another odd thing is that the uncut cylinder proofs seem to be facing the wrong direction.

Certainly not a "normal" MK VI, but doesn't appear to me to be a Khyber gun either.

If my memory is right (remember it's been forgetting stuff since 1943....), there was another government procurement of MK VIs in the 1920s, and they were made by either a government arsenal (Enfield??) or another maker other than W&S. Is this perhaps one of those?

You might ask over on the one of the English Military forums on [url]www.gunboards.com--I think they have a forum called "The British Gun Pub" or some such weird name (they're English, so it's normal!). There should be a Webley guy or guys there.

Thanks, I do have an account over there so I posted it. I guess I don't have enough posts yet to post freely, as a moderator needs to make my thread visible. Probably to stop spam.

It appears to be refinished and the markings dulled in the process. It also appears to have been proofed twice in the UK which indicates that it passed through civilian hands and the UK twice. Give these guys a shout regarding the markings under the barrel: http://www.full-bore.co.uk/index.php
