I ran across a turkish mauser in .308 for $150. I was wondering if anyone has one, or knows more about them than I do. Thought? Likes? Dislikes? Any info would be appreciated thanks.

Turkish Mauser in .308, thoughts?

I wonder who did that conversion? The turkish mauser is kind of a hybrid in that it has large ring dimensions and small ring threads. Also the heatreat is just casehardening. They were originally chambered for 7.65x53 then later rebarrelled to 8x57. These rounds had an operating pressure around 45-50Kpsi at the time of these conversions and the turkish mausers are safe at these pressures.
The 308Win runs up to 65Kpsi and at that pressure the lugs would probably start to set back after a while.
The turkish mausers usually are suitable for cartridges that are suitable for other small ring mausers (M96, etc).Luck favors the prepared.
The original battle plan did not survive initial contact with the enemy.
