Ive got an all matching 6.5x55 model 96. Its really nice & has a tiger stripe stock. The buttplate has rust on it. That's the problem ; that's a matching # part. It looks that some parts were left in the white; bolt handle ; or was it chromed? Its the buttplate chromed?

If it has rust, just clean it off and oil it up to prevent it from coming back. Being a matching number part doesn't mean you have to neglect maintinence to keep it original.

If it is just surface rust, start with a rag and gun oil, you will be surprised how much rust that will remove without hurting the finish.

Well, if it had finish. You probably won't notice it not hurting the finish of parts that are in the white.

But if it had finish, it wouldn't hurt it.....
