    M1-carbine

I am thinking of replacing my mini-14 with a m1-carbine beginning next year. Are these considered C&R rifles? if they are, can they be shipped directly to me or can i pick it up the same day i buy it?

There are commercially manufactured ones that are not over 50 years old, so know what you're buying.

Most M1s are C&R - There are a few mannufacturers out there that have put together rifles from parts - They are not C&R -
Unless you have a C&R FFL 03, it doesn't sound like you do - Then you must do the transfer thru an FFL - If you find one from a private party - Then you can do a FTF -

Problem solved - Buy from the CMP. Help a good cause, get a great price/product, have it shipped to your door w/o needing a C&R. Your not going to beat $419 for a USGI carbine.

Stay far, far away from Universal ones and USGI ones that have "Blue Sky" import marks. The former are POS. The latter have an import stamp so deep/hard that the barrel was damaged.

As mentioned, CMP for the win.

No you don't. You need proof of marksmanship (C&R counts but you can also shoot a match or just get a RO to sign off) and membership in a CMP affiliated club.

                      Correct.
No C&R FFL needed when ordering from CMP.

Nope, that's part of what makes CMP awsome.

                            Just need to be 18.
4 years ago when I was 18 I sent in my first CMP order. I used a hunter saftey certificate (because I didn't/couldn't have a C&R) and I didn't want to bother with getting signed off with an RO. To satisfy the other requirments I got a subscription to the GCA (Garand Collectors Assc.) and I sent them a copy of my birth certificate as proof of citizenship. The only other "hoop" is you need to take one of the pages down to a notary (I used fedex) to get it stamped. After the first time you submit all of this stuff you can order from them by just submitting the order forms each time (the notary expires after 3 years).

Check out CMP's website and click "order forms" and they list the requirments. Some think it's too much trouble but it's really easy.

Yeah, you didn't know? You better go buy something from them soon. People have been whoring as many rifles and carbines as they can get since Nov 4.
