Just got back from the range...

Well, I hit ASC at lunch today. I was testing out a couple of toys to see how they shot. One of them was a Lee-Enfield No.5 from August 1945. Unfortunately, somebody along the way somewhere got rid of the original stock. It was replaced with what looks like a 1960s vintage sporting stock. It's a monte carlo one that looks like it was made for enfields, so it isn't as bad as it could be. I was planning on finding an original No. 5 stock until I shot it. Evidently whoever monkeyed with it actually knew what they were doing. The two-stage trigger is gone. It now has a nice, single-stage trigger that is light, and breaks somewhere around 3 pounds. The front sight post looks like it is leaning about 10 degrees to the left, but danged if it isn't dead-on with windage and about 1 inch high at 25 yards. Standing with no sling I was shooting them all in a 2x2 inch square. From the rest, that dropped down to a clover leaf. I picked this rifle up as an afterthought in a 4 gun deal, and I probably paid $60-70 for it. Now I am wondering what the heck it was doing in the junk gun bin. It looks a bit battered and like most of the other enfield sporters you see out there, but somebody put some work into this one. I'm going to have to get this thing out to the 100 yard range soon. And yes, I will post pictures of it soon.

p.s. I talked to them about the "shooting" there. Evidently all that happened was somebody got their hand in the way of the charging handle of an AK, and got cut a little bit. From everything I was hearing online, I was expecting somebody to have gotten hurt much worse than that.
