    Bought an Enfield Today..

So I was wandering around my favorite local gun shop, and on the cheap rack was a British Enfield .303. The tag says it's a MkII, but it sorta looks like the Jungle Carbine. They wanted $150.00 plus DROS. They gave me a bore sight, so I could check out the rifling, and it was in great shape. The action was also in great shape, and I tested the firing action and it worked great. So I bought it, I am just having a hard time figuring out exactly what model it is.
The stock was in good shape too, I also want to know if I got a good deal, more on it when the 10 days is up. But I am excited to get it!

It says the model number on the side of the receiver. By MkII do you mean No.4 Mk.II?

If it is in reasonable cosmetic condition (considering its age and that it was a battle gun), has a good bore and you enjoy shooting it, how can you go wrong for $150?

I recently paid $200 for one to give to my nephews. They LOVE it!

Enjoy your piece of military history.

So there's a requirement for a DROS and 10 day wait on a C&R rifle from a FFL dealer? I'm just wondering...

My No.4 is a great shooter. For $150, I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
If it ain't broke, keep fixin' it 'til it is...

Yep, 10 days same as any other firearm, unless you have a C&R and COE I believe.

If it's from a California FFL Dealer then yes, you have to DROS it and do the 10 day wait. If you have a C&R FFL and a COE then you can skip the 10 day wait but still have to DROS it.

It's hard to go wrong with a $150 working firearm. Be sure to post picks when you pick it up.

If it looks similar, appears you purchased a "sporterized" No.4 Mk II.
                    At $150, you did good.

If it looks like that one it has been sporterized. Not necessarily a bad thing thogh in fact you MAY have got a super bargain. check on top of the barrel - if there is stamping Including the words "Golden State" and Maybe "Jungle carbine" (Golden state coine dthat phrase initially) then it was sporterized by that company professionally and these rifles are becoming more sought after, in fact I was looking at one last week (you're not in the bay area are you, near concord?). Either way these are super fun rifles you will not get a more reliable or solid truck gun / plinker or fun shooting bolt action out to a couple of hundred yards. The problem you will now have is that once you have one enfield, they tend to get lonely, and more will inevitably follow you home.

As I understand it, and somebody please correct me if I am off on some part here:

Think of the DROS and 10 day wait as requirements on the FFL01 holder, not requirements on the buyer.

In order for an FFL01 dealer to sell/release a firearm to you, they need to run a DROS on the buyer and hold the firearm for ten days. There are exemptions to this rule, but that is the CA law that applies to FFL01 holders in CA regarding the sale/release of firearms to customers. The FFL01 holders are tightly regulated to make sure they do not release firearms to prohibited persons (thus the running of DROS). The ten day wait is a CA mandated "cooling off period," and while usually accompanying DROS, is not a part of the DROS process.

If you purchased the firearm or were given the firearm by a private citizen, then you need to PPT the gun if it is a longarm newer than 50 years old or any pistol. If it is a longarm that is older than 50 years, the gun can be transferred between two non-prohibited persons without going through an FFL01 holder.

Being FFL03 (C&R) licensed (a federal license) allows out of state dealers to ship C&R firearms directly to your door under federal law. CA law limits such shipments to longarms older than 50 years though (the CA law is not C&R specific). This is because a private individual in CA is allowed to receive a longarm older than 50 years without going through DROS (and thus an FFL01). The out-of-state dealer is allowed to ship C&R firearms to an 03FFL (C&R) holder (under fed law). A CA FFL01 holder is always required to run DROS (CA law) though.

Hope that clears it up some.
                            -Pete
