    30-6 spam can

Sorry no pic but a fellow shooter at the range asked my friends and i if we were interested in a 240 round spam can of 30-6 ammo for a hundred bucks. My friend bought it. The question is if it is on 5 round stripper clips ? would that be for a 1903a3. The can is almost square and has a real spam can type opener attached to the side. It came with a metal caring handle built smack in the center of the top. I do not think he will open it to look. I see no reason to put Garand ammo on 5 round stripper clips if the seller is correct. He said he bought it over 20 years ago. Anybody ever see this stuff ?

Yeah, CMP used to sell something similar. It should be marked on the side if it is in cartons or 8 round Garand clips.

Do a google image search for "M2 ball spam can"

It's probably the Greek HxP stuff. If so, it'll say on the side. Mine say 192 rounds on en bloc clips on bandoleers.

Well, if its HXP, the 240 round cans were in 20 round boxes, the 192 round cans were in 8 round en-block clips and bandos. I bought some 5 round clipped AP ammo from the CMP but they were re-packed into reusable ammo cans. Maybe post a picture of the writing on the sides and we can give you a better idea of what exactly it is.

It's most likely HXP ammo. Some of the 240 round cans were loaded in 5 round stripper clips and some cans were in 20 round boxes. No matter how it is packaged, it will be Garand safe if that's the concern.

I would be all over that ammo at that price. Quite a deal.

Never heard of 30-6. Is it something new, or ancient??

It could be anything. Danish, French, Belgian, Portagee, just to name a few.

I have a can in the shop that is in bandoleers with 5-round strippers. I think it's Lake City but I don't remember for sure. I do know the clips are gold-colored and have the tabs on either end that break off when you use them.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

For $100 each, I would buy as many 240 rd spam cans of USGI M1 ball as the seller had.

Google "smart ***" and you'll find your answer.

Sounds like a deal for surplus 30/06.

Then I would happily buy them off you for $40 extra thinking that I got a great bargain

I have one sealed spam can of USGI M1 Ball, but it is such a neat piece of history that I don't plan on opening it.
