My 2 cents is stay away from anything steel core. I got some of these from the SPortsman Guide and are not steel core.

I agree get both. Some rifles digest ammos differently. try both and see which one groups better.

Many ranges won't let you use steel core ammo if they have metal back stops. It tends to wear them out quickly.

As for the ammo, it varies from rifle to rifle. Get some of each and try it out. The get a bunch of the kind your rifle likes better. Also, don't believe that it is non-corrosive. I had a barrel grow some lovely red fur inside after shooting some "non-corrosive" ammo a while back. Treat all eastern bloc ammo as at least mildly corrosive. Just clean the bore with a windex solution as part of your regular cleaning routine and you won't have a problem.

Mb correct me if I'm wrong, isn't it the ammonia in the windex that neutralizes the corrossive salts in the eastern block ammo?

Yeah, SG is a nice site for the Yugo 54R. It wont attract a magnet and it is good ammo. If you do spend over $100, there are a lot of $10 off coupons out there (just google search for Sportsmans Guide Coupon). I think there are also $5 off shipping coupons (SH980 expires on 12/7).

Not too long ago, Ammunitiontogo.com was selling the lead core Yugo stuff for fairly cheap. I bought a few hundred rounds of the stuff and shoots nicely, although it's "heavy ball" so has more recoil.

As for the Bulgarian and Russian, I bought a spam can of each at the same time, and have only put 20 rounds of each through my M38. Both were "Light Ball" so both shot about the same. I didn't have any hangfires or anything, and I didn't notice any difference in accuracy.

It's actually the water in the Windex that dissolves and washes away the corrosive salts. The ammonia in the Windex helps remove copper fouling and the detergent help remove powder fouling.

Try to find a buddy or relative that lives one city over and have it shipped there.

Just use hoppes #9 solvent, it works fine on corrosive stuff. You don't need to throw it in the bathtub after five rounds unless you live in a really humid environment.
