    S&W .455 MkII Hand Ejector

The set of original stocks showed up today for my second model hand ejector. It took me several months to locate a set with just the right amount of wear to match the gun.

This particular Smith was made under contract for the British government during WWI. The serial number indicates it was made in 1917 and various proofs show it was issued to Canadian forces.

    Edited to reflect correct nomenclature.

    Very nice S&W!

Here is my Colt 1909 New Service. Most likely Canadian issue. Serial number puts it at 1915.

Nice, but not a .44 caliber anything. That is in the .455 British service round.

You are right, while the original N frame revolvers were known as .44 hand ejectors, the British spec revolvers are called .455 MkII hand ejectors. will correct the original post to reflect that.

I have been told that the crossed pennents on the frame in front of the cylinder indicate Canadian issue.

It will have a C with a broad arrow inside it for Canadian ownership. The crossed pennants are a military acceptance mark.

Nice revolver, one of my favorites!

The grips do look like they originally came with with the revolver, nicely done.

It's a spam bot and they are so annoying. All of them have only one or two posts.

Very interesting. I'm not well versed in Commonwealth firearms, but this is a contract gun as you mention not a lend-lease?

The British contracted for SW triplelock .455s early in the war but found that the ejector rod shroud got packed with mud and prevented the cylinder from closing. They went to the HE version sans ejector shroud. They also contracted with Colt for New Service revolvers in .455. To the best of my knowledge there was no lend-lease provision in WW1 but the Brits did get sizable loans from the U.S. to pay for war material. When we entered the war the HE .455s and New Service .455s were reworked to .45ACP as the M1917 revolver for issue to U.S. forces.

                            I miss having a .455 around.

                              Super nice, well done.
I've done the same to mine (grips), locating some that would look good on my chopped down version.

I wanted one that looked like Indiana Jones' Raiders gun.

Indiana Jones 1917 HE Smith And Wesson, .45ACP. Around 4 inch barrel (3 5/8)
