You need to beat on the cartridge lifter with a hammer if you're going to make it look authentic!!

Regardless of that... I still would have bought it

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

I told him that when he called to ask about another one, "is the lifter all beat to hell?"

I was specifically looking for an 1873 in 32-20, as I already have an 1892 in that caliber that I reload for.

It has a nice bore......... not pristine, but it does have a lot of shine to it. After I clean it I'll be able to tell for sure. What really confounds me it that most of the guys selling these guns are asking a pretty good buck for them, but almost all of the rifles have dust-bunnies, grime, and powder residue in the bore. You'd think that the dealers would bother to run a patch through them before putting them on the table. I passed on several rifles because I just couldn't tell for certain what the condition of the bore was.

            Some more pics:

Nice find, congrats. I really like the look of the 73s with their crescent shaped buttplate. I'll probably never own an original, but I do plan on picking up one of their modern .357 reproductions at some point.

                  It's a rifle, so about 30 inches.

The other one wasn't beat too bad, but it had several small problems that had me on the fence. Dirty bore, missing dust cover, some buggered screws, etc. Plus, he wanted $100 more than I paid for the one pictured. What it did have that was desirable to me was an octagon barrel - the one I bought has a round one. Still, a much better gun for the money.

Looks great, the 32-20s in Marlins and Winchesters seem to be alot better buys than the larger calibers of course. I think some of that is because alot of people still use these in Cowboys shoots.

They really cannot use the smaller Calibers as I have heard they will not reliability take the steel plates down.

I just sold a 92 in 32-20 and it would have been a much easier sell in 44-40 or even 38-40.

that is puurrdy!!! i'll have to post some pictures of mine. Did i read you said the barrel is 30" long?! if so, you could have one of the rarer model 73's out there. You should get a Cody Museum letter for it and confirm the barrel length.

What Manny said, especially being a round barrel, they were usually seen on Carbines. Is that one I dated at 1891?

AR, the '73's price the same way, bigger the bore, bigger the price, with the exception of the .22 rimfire.

Trap, have you ever seen a .22?

I have never seen one in my life, but have heard they exist.
