    Thoughts on D&T'd M1 Carbine

I have been wanting an M1 Carbine and came across one that is a very nice looking Inland 5.44 mil SN, Inland barrel dated 8-44, most other parts are Inland. But the darn thing had a scope on it with a modified handguard. A replacement handguard was put back on and the holes are not visible with the handguard installed.

So I guess the collector value is shot to hell but any safety concerns?
What would be a fair value?

What are they asking for it?

      $900.
If it wasn't for the D&T I think it would be worth it and someone else would have snagged it by now.

Likely no safety concern at all. It has obviously been fired like this.

The holes are forward of the chamber. Even if they were not I would have little concern.

If it is a nice Inland and a good shooter the two holes really do not hurt value much. If you really wanted to a correct Inland barrel could be found for replacement. Inland Barrels are the easiest to find as they made the most Carbines by a long ways.

Shooter Inlands are selling in the 800.00 range. Maybe upwards of 1000.00 if really nice.

I have no idea as to the rest of the condition without photos, so I am going to say in the 600.00 to 700.00 range would be a decent price if it has a good bore and the two holes being the only overall concern.

Does it have Import markings? I would be more concerned with those than the holes.

$900 is a non D&T price. Seller wants nonbubba'd dough for a bubba'd gun. Just say no.

It is funny, got my feet wet with a couple of nice post war carbines, but sold them and went with USGI stuff. The Inland will compliment the Saginaw and the IBM nicely.
