    Military channel

    The military channel has been showing a lot of island hopping in the pacific during WW 2 and i was surprised how many front line Marines were still using a springfield and not the garand. And tons of carbines. Okinawa was in 1945 and still Marines were racking the 1903a3 bolt in combat. Maybe in Europe the Garand was used more.More Marines were killed in one 7 day battle [ suger loaf hill] than even Iwo jima.

      Initially the m1 Garand was slated for the Army only. Marines often traded their m1 carbines with Army soldiers however.
