    New 1903a3 typewriter

    I have been looking for a 1903a3 for a while and found a pretty nice one at Turners of all places. And it was a good price. It has a remington stock that an old school pachmyer decelerator has been added to. I havent compared the length of pull to my 1903 to see if it was cut down. The original butt plate came with it and the top flat has been filled as you can see in the photos. Enough talking now gun porn.

      My guess is they cut the buttstock to make it flat for the recoil pad. You can try to find a surplus stock or buy a new one and fit it to your rifle. At least the rest appears unmessed with. The 03A3s are great rifles and you will have many happy range trips with it. Get her out to the range and see what she can do.

          The stock is cut down by about an 1/8 inch. Quite disappointing but i will be looking for a smith corona stock for it.

              An eighth of an inch isn't much. You might be able to take the butt pad off and re-shape the but to accept a regular butt plate.

                  Typewriter variant....less common than Remingtons... neat.rifle. At least bubba's footprint was small. I would not rush out to change the stock right away. Shoot and enjoy with one eye open for a stock when you find a good deal.

                          The only issue is i want to use it for cmp competitions and the butt pad is a no no. I will probably switch the stock from my 1903 to the a3 so i can shoot it in comp until i find the proper stock.
                          Bubba did do a nice job. I did remove the pad to see but to fix it the LOP would make it quite short and still wouldnt be legal.

                              Are you certain about that?

                              I've got a Rock Island that received similar treatment...





                              As best as I can tell, the butt stock on mine was straight cut right at the bottom, where the butt makes a slight curve inward, lopping about an eighth of an inch off. I'm planning on reshaping the bottom of the butt stock and replacing the metal military butt plate. Best I can tell, that will make the LOP about 1/8" less...not much.

                                  Its not much, you are right but its easier to find another stock that is correct since this is a rem stock anyway. It is actually well done work but not for CMP. I figure i will get a new stock and sell or trade this one. Its actually perfect for someone who has an 1903 and doesnt like the recoil of the mighty 06.

                                      I have a Remington that is wearing an SC stock, so if you find a nice remington stock, there is a possibility for making a trade on it.
