While I generally despise sporterized milsurp rifles, I do like yours. It looks classy and well made. Definitely not some bubba blow torched hackjob.

Great... if I had known it was a cigarette gun I wouldn't have bought it. I don't smoke [emoji41]Brian, very nice rifle, but an odd one to ID.
It doesn't look to be a "guild" gun, and if a "cigarette" gun, it's way above those quality norms. More like a guild gun, but done or re-done after the war.
The Circle Z proof is Czech, it's been found on some Polish Mausers as well, but with a Pole serial number suffix that yours doesn't have.
The trigger waffenamp dates to the late 20's Germany, but I can't make out the first number of the one on the receiver.
I'm no expert on the scopes, but I believe that one to be post war 50's vintage.
A real kink in the ID, is the Circle Z proofed 30/06 barrel. My best guess by the profile and length is, it came off of a early post war commercial sporter BRNO.
My best WAG, this was a cigarette gun, that got a re-do in the late 50's. Many Mauser sporter rifles like this were sold in the US Army military PX's to GI's stationed there.
Do you have any history on how it got here?
Whats the number on the receiver ring waffenamp?
I don't have any history on it. Got it from a honey-hole, don't want to axe too many questions or they'll think I got it took cheap

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Reminds of me of a post-war build on a German K98k receiver (I don't recall the make or year) that was barreled in 30-06, given a nice stock and double-triggers. This was a couple years ago, but I don't believe that it was a Czech rebuild.
The scope was a SVT-PU by Yoshka Orla. They used anything to make a decent rifle.*sniff* *sniff* Commies...Comment

The receiver is most likely a JP Sauer Suhl manufacture, as the 37 Waffenamt was the proof most associated with this maker and with Suhl. My personal favorite Mauser manufacturer.
Sauer moved to the 37 Waffenamt in 1939, so it is at least that old. They used the "37" until the end of the war.
The scope is a 5 digit Hensoldt Wetzlar Dialytan 4x, which does technically mean it could be within the WW2 timeframe based on a low-number 5 digit code. If you could make out the number and post it that would help. Is there a "BMJ" code on it anywhere? Here is a list of known Military scopes:
It's very interesting because, although it's a huge long shot, it could have been a German Military sniper. Lots of research would have to go into this, and even then it's very difficult to tell. Obviously it was sporterized at some point, I am guessing by a Czech source, but my knowledge ends in 1945.Originally posted by doggieSomeone must put an end to this endless bickering by posting the unadulterated indisputable facts and truth."The California matrix of gun control laws is among the harshest in the nation and are filled with criminal law traps for people of common intelligence who desire to obey the law." - U.S. District Judge Roger T. Finally got her out to the range today. Took 3 shots at 50, all three were touching. Took one shot at 100 yards:

Cigarette rifle. After ww2 there was a cottage industry in west germany whereby armorers and gunsmiths upgraded model 98 s for profit. Some for occupation gi's. I have one similar with double set tiggers and same stock.Comment
